Coinbase's Tokenized Stocks See Explosive Growth on Base Blockchain
Coinbase's tokenized stocks on the Base blockchain have seen significant growth in just 30 days, according to CEO Brian Armstrong. The number of asset holders has increased by a staggering 97-fold, reaching 46,700. This rapid uptake highlights a growing interest in Base's tokenized stock offerings, which are onchain representations of U.S. company shares.
These stocks are not available to U.S. persons and are issued under Regulation S, with shares held in regulated custody. The surge in holders suggests a pattern of swift early adoption, potentially indicative of broader interest in tokenized assets. Market activity, including decentralized exchange volume, has also been impressive, reaching approximately $227.7 million shortly after launch.
The growth in asset holders and volume may be interpreted by markets as supportive of a potential Base token launch. While current odds remain low for a 2026 launch, with markets pricing a 7.5% likelihood by December 31, 2026, some investors may view the developments as somewhat positive. However, any announcements from Coinbase regarding a Base token launch could significantly influence market pricing.
