Coinkite Warns of AI Failure in Detecting Bitcoin Wallet Hack Vulnerability
Coinkite Inc., a Canada-based company behind the Coldcard Bitcoin wallet, has warned that artificial intelligence failed to detect a software flaw exploited by hackers. The vulnerability was used to steal an estimated $130 million in user funds from affected wallets late last week.
The hack occurred on August 5, and Coinkite has since issued a blog post advising other companies building Bitcoin hardware and software to review their security-critical code immediately.
According to the company, the exploited flaw is a warning for all firms in the industry, not just those using AI. Coinkite emphasized that no one is immune to such vulnerabilities, and regular reviews are essential to prevent similar attacks in the future.
