Coins.ph CEO Wei Zhou acknowledged that retail crypto has been in a 'deader than dead' state, but his company saw an opportunity to pivot into backend financial infrastructure and become an institutional payment engine.

The transformation paid off quickly, with Coins.ph now processing over $100 million daily in USDT and USDC to Philippine Pesos. Zhou pointed out that while Wise relies on traditional banking rails, Coins.ph can offer lower fees - as low as 5 bips compared to Wise's 40-50 bips.

Coins.ph is also looking to expand its services beyond the Philippines, with plans to secure payment and crypto licenses in key emerging markets. The company is waiting for its Crypto Asset Service Provider (CASP) license from the SEC, which will allow for advanced yield-bearing stablecoin products.
