Coldcard Bitcoin Wallets Hit with $89M in Fresh Attacks

The attacks on Coldcard Bitcoin wallets have continued to escalate, with an additional $89 million in losses reported. A total of 208 BTC has been stolen in this latest wave, bringing the overall figure to 1,367 BTC. The attacks exploit a firmware flaw discovered in 2021 that used a predictable random number generator, allowing attackers to reproduce private keys and steal funds without physical access.

The new attack method is more sophisticated than previous waves, as it spreads stolen Bitcoin to unique addresses using advanced transaction methods. This indicates that the highest-value wallets have been emptied. The researchers warn that vulnerable Coldcard users remain at risk of theft as these attacks continue.
