Coldcard Hack Triggers Mass Movement of Long-Dormant Bitcoin

A security scare involving Coldcard hardware wallets has caused concern among bitcoin holders. A wallet labeled 18TExP, dormant since 2013, moved 500 BTC worth $31.3 million after 12.7 years of inactivity.

This transaction occurred at the same time a security breach was reported in Coldcard's systems, dating back to March 2021. Researchers estimate that attackers have drained around $130 million in BTC since July 30, 2026.

The reactivation of the 18TExP wallet is likely linked to this breach, as Lookonchain suggested the owner may have relocated funds to a new wallet as a security precaution.
