comdirect Offers 29 Crypto Certificates with Savings Plan Promotion
comdirect, a brand of Commerzbank AG, allows customers to invest in 29 cryptocurrency certificates through a securities account, rather than purchasing actual coins. These certificates track the price of 12 cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin and Ethereum, and can be purchased with a savings plan, which waives the order fee until the end of 2027.
The certificates, also known as ETPs (exchange traded products), are a type of debt instrument that ties repayment to the price of the underlying cryptocurrency. However, this means that investors do not own the actual cryptocurrency and are not protected against the issuer's insolvency.
The order fee for one-off purchases is 9.90 euros, which amounts to 9.90 percent of a 100-euro investment. However, customers can invest in a savings plan, which waives the order fee until the end of 2027, making it a more convenient and cost-effective option for small investments.
comdirect's product page lists 29 securities from five issuers, including 21Shares, Bitwise, VanEck, nxtAssets, and Invesco. The certificates are available for 12 cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Cardano, and Solana, but not Dogecoin or Monero.
