Comdirect's Crypto Certificates: A New Way to Invest in Cryptocurrencies
Crypto investors at comdirect, a brand of Commerzbank AG, have a unique way of investing in cryptocurrencies. Instead of buying actual coins, they purchase certificates that track the price of the underlying cryptocurrency. This means that the investor does not own a wallet or private key, and the certificate sits in their securities account like a share or fund unit.
The bank offers 29 certificates from five issuers, covering 12 different cryptocurrencies. These include Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Cardano, Solana, and others. However, it's worth noting that there is no security on Dogecoin, Monero, or perpetual or staking tokens.
The minimum fee for a one-off purchase is 9.90 euros, which amounts to 9.90 percent of a 100 euro investment. However, investing through a savings plan waives the 1.5 percent order fee until the end of 2027. This makes the savings plan not only more convenient but also significantly cheaper for small investments.
