Companies Should Not Be Forced to Hold Onto Bitcoin, Says OranjeBTC CEO
Guilherme Gomes, CEO of OranjeBTC, believes that companies should not be forced to hold onto Bitcoin as an absolute rule. In a recent interview, he stated that BTC is still a long-term investment, but companies need the freedom to use it when it makes sense for their financial management.
Gomes argues that the problem lies in selling Bitcoin during stressful moments due to loss of conviction in its value, rather than using part of the position to fulfill obligations or improve capital structure. He also points out that some companies may need to adapt to new circumstances and use their assets accordingly.
For example, Michael Saylor's company, Strategy, has started selling Bitcoin this year, which Gomes sees as a sign of adapting to changing financial needs rather than abandoning the long-term thesis. He believes that companies with significant obligations and responsibilities cannot simply hold onto Bitcoin without considering other factors.
Gomes also mentions that OranjeBTC itself may consider selling some of its BTC in the future if it is necessary for fulfilling its own obligations, such as paying a debt due in 2031. He emphasizes that a treasury should view Bitcoin as a strategic asset that can be managed according to the company's needs.
