Compound DAO's $52 Million COMP Purchase Sparks Governance Controversy
The Compound DAO recently made headlines when it used protocol reserves to purchase $52 million worth of COMP, which has sparked controversy and debate among delegates.
The move was done through a Binance account, but public chain data cannot prove the withdrawal's funding source. The transfer occurred just 58 minutes before the voting snapshot for Proposal 582, which passed with zero opposition but has left its authority disputed.
A delegate named ugurmersin alleged on September 27 that the conversion and delegation breached the reserve mandate. In response, the Compound Foundation stated that the conversion was consistent with the mandate's governance-continuity purpose, and none of the assets had been spent on Foundation operations.
