Consensys' Security Incident Did Not Compromise MetaMask Users' Funds
A recent security incident affecting Consensys' infrastructure has sparked concern among MetaMask users. Joseph Lubin, co-founder of Ethereum and founder of Consensys, issued a statement assuring that user funds were not compromised.
Lubin emphasized that the private storage model used by MetaMask ensures that users retain control over their keys, with Consensys having no access to them. This means that confidential recovery phrases, private keys, and assets held in wallets were not included in the scope of the incident.
The security issue was reportedly related to a change made by Consensys and its partners, who changed their validator keys as a precautionary measure. This caused some operational disruptions, requiring validators to exit and rejoin the staking queue, which can be time-consuming.
