Consensys Software Inc., a company founded by Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin, has announced that it is splitting into two separate entities. The company will separate its MetaMask consumer platform from its protocol and institutional infrastructure operations, with the new entity retaining the Consensys name. This move aims to give each segment sharper focus on their respective markets.

The rebranded MetaMask business will concentrate solely on wallet and consumer products, while Consensys will retain Linea and enterprise infrastructure work, including Besu and Teku. The separation is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. Lubin will serve as chairman and CEO of the new MetaMask entity, as well as executive chairman of Consensys.

The immediate impact on users is minimal, with no changes to wallet security models or access. However, this move highlights the growing importance of consumer-focused blockchain companies in the industry.
