Core Lightning Warns Node Operators Over Experimental Feature Risks
Core Lightning has issued an urgent warning to node operators using experimental features on its software. The project advises disabling these features immediately due to potential risks affecting user funds.
The warning, reported by Gate News, specifically targets users who have enabled optional features still being tested, rather than all Core Lightning operators. Core Lightning is the implementation software for the Bitcoin Lightning Network, where node operators can choose from configuration options that include experimental functions.
For affected users on StartOS, Start9 recommends disabling 'Dual funding and liquidity ads' as a precaution while the investigation continues. However, this does not imply that these features are responsible for the issues under investigation.
The warning comes five days after Core Lightning published the previously embargoed source code for v26.06.7, which fixed confirmed vulnerabilities reported by multiple sources. The project's configuration documentation notes that experimental options are intended for advanced users testing proposed features and may break between releases.
