CoreWeave Stock Climbs But Faces Rising Risks and Competition
CoreWeave's stock has surged to $91.90, climbing over 50% from its yearly low, mirroring gains in other neocloud companies like IREN and Nebius. The rally coincides with a broader AI sector boom, with giants like Nvidia nearing a $6 trillion market cap, and AMD, Dell, and Broadcom also rising. CoreWeave, a major player in AI computing solutions, serves top firms such as Anthropic, OpenAI, and Microsoft. Its revenue backlog exceeds $104 billion, with notable deals including a $35 billion partnership with Meta and a $22 billion agreement with OpenAI.
Despite robust growth, CoreWeave faces significant risks. Its capital expenditure is soaring, with plans to spend between $35 billion and $39 billion this year. The company has already spent over $29.2 billion in the past five quarters. Rising costs for servers, GPUs, CPUs, and storage are pushing CoreWeave to seek more funding through debt and equity. Additionally, depreciation and amortization costs have jumped to over $1.3 billion, up from $560 million a year earlier, accounting for more than 52% of its total revenue.
Competition is intensifying, with Nscale and Lambda emerging as strong rivals. Bitcoin mining companies like Riot Platforms and MARA Holdings are also diversifying into AI data centers. Analysts expect CoreWeave's annual revenue to hit $12.87 billion this year, a 150% increase from the previous year, with projections of more than doubling to $26.7 billion next year. However, technical analysis suggests the stock may be under pressure, with a potential break below the $66.55 support level indicating further downside.
