Cramer Bails on Bitcoin Over Quantum Computing Fears

CNBC host and crypto critic Jim Cramer has announced he's selling his Bitcoin due to concerns over the threat of quantum computing. According to a recent interview with IBM CEO Arvind Krishna, Cramer was warned that he should 'get paranoid' about crypto's cryptography within three or four years.

Krishna's warning follows a demonstration by IBM and the University of Chicago on July 30, which showed verified quantum advantage using 70 logical qubits. This has raised concerns among some in the industry about the potential vulnerability of cryptocurrencies to quantum attacks.

Cramer has been known for his inverse Cramer trade pattern, where traders bet against his picks. A fund called Tuttle Capital even launched an Inverse Cramer Tracker ETF in 2023, which closed due to a lack of assets. Bitcoin investors are now cheering on Cramer's exit, as it could be a buying opportunity.

The underlying research behind quantum computing is real, but the timeline for its potential impact on cryptocurrencies is debatable. Post-quantum standards exist, and Bitcoin developers have been discussing how to adopt them for years.
