Cramer's 'Buy Crypto' Call Fails as Bitcoin Loses 25% in One Year
Jim Cramer's 'buy crypto' comment from September 2025 has been put to the test as Bitcoin's price continues to fluctuate. At the time, he tied his recommendation to an image of a debt calculator showing the total U.S. national debt at $37.6 trillion. As of press time on September 21, 2026, that number stands at $40.18 trillion, making Cramer's suggestion seem more relevant than ever.
However, when tested with a hypothetical investment of $1,000 in Bitcoin, the results were far from impressive. With BTC trading at $111,908 on September 29, 2025, and currently at $83,731, an investor would have seen a 25.18% loss, leaving their position worth $748.21.
This is not an isolated case, as other cryptocurrencies such as Ethereum (ETH) and XRP also saw significant losses when invested in at the time of Cramer's recommendation. With ETH trading at $4,144 on September 29, 2025, and currently at $2,696, a $1,000 investment would have dropped by 34.94% to $650.58. Meanwhile, XRP was trading at $2.87 on September 29, 2025, and is now at $1.48, resulting in a loss of 48.43% and a position worth $515.68.
