Cronos Burns 228 Million $CRO in Tokenomics Update
Cronos Network, an interoperable EVM blockchain, has implemented a significant token burn of its native coin $CRO. The burn was carried out after the community approved two governance proposals. 228 million $CRO tokens have been permanently removed from the community pool, bringing the total to 428 million.
The value of this burn is approximately $15 million at the current market price of CRO. This burn is part of a broader tokenomics update approved through Proposals 36 and 37, which introduce a substantial one-time supply reduction and a recurring mechanism that directs platform revenue toward CRO buybacks and burns.
The latest burn marks the fifth execution under Cronos Network's existing mechanism and is substantially larger than earlier rounds, which each removed approximately 50 million CRO. In addition to the immediate token destruction, the approved governance proposals establish a monthly recurring supply-reduction mechanism.
Under the new arrangement, 100% of revenue generated by Ult and Cronos Launch will be allocated to purchasing CRO on the open market, which will then be permanently burned each month. Cronos Network has committed to publishing the transaction hashes associated with these activities, allowing community members to independently track the buybacks and burns on-chain.
