Cronos Community Unanimously Votes for Token Burn and Revenue-Funded Buybacks
Cronos, a decentralized platform, has successfully completed a community vote to burn 228 million CRO tokens and fund monthly buybacks. The vote, which concluded on October 3, saw a staggering 99.78% of participating votes in favor of the proposal. This move marks a significant shift in tokenomics, as Cronos will route revenue from its two products, Ult and Cronos Launch, into the open market to buy CRO and destroy it. This approach mimics the equity playbook, where companies use free cash flow to return value to shareholders.
The rebranding of Cronos Labs' trading app to Ult has been a key factor in driving revenue. The app, which offers stocks, crypto, and leveraged perpetual contracts, has seen a significant increase in trading volume. This has allowed Cronos to tap into the revenue generated by Ult and use it to fund the buybacks.
The transparency surrounding the buyback program is also noteworthy. Cronos has committed to publishing the transaction hash for each monthly buyback, allowing anyone to verify the purchase and check the price it was executed at.
