Cronos Network paused its operations after an attacker exploited the Tectonic Cronos DeFi platform, leading to losses of around $75 million. The incident occurred on August 30, with the network halt affecting all activities.

Tectonic warned users not to interact with the protocol, citing a pump-and-borrow style attack that exploited its 20% collateral factor and thin liquidity. Researcher Weilin Li estimated losses of around $75 million, up from an initial estimate of $66 million, as additional attacker-controlled wallets were discovered.

Crypto.com CEO Kris Marszalek stated that the exchange and app were unaffected by the incident, easing contagion fears to some extent.
