Crypto Adoption Surges Through Bear Market with Stablecoins Leading Charge
Crypto adoption remained surprisingly resilient during the 2026 bear market, according to Chainalysis' 2026 Global Crypto Adoption Index. The total crypto market capitalization fell about 50% between July 1, 2025, and June 30, 2026, but on-chain economic activity declined only 1.6%, from $9.5 trillion to $9.4 trillion.
The data suggest that crypto activity has become less dependent on outright price speculation, with payments, cross-border transfers, peer-to-peer transactions, and stablecoins increasingly accounting for activity that can continue even when cryptocurrency prices are falling.
Brazil ranked No. 1 globally for grassroots crypto adoption, followed by the United States, Nigeria, Japan, and South Korea. The US ranked second in Chainalysis' 2026 grassroots adoption index, behind Brazil.
