Crypto Adviser Praises Trump for 'Historic' Clarity Act Compromises
The White House's crypto adviser, Patrick Witt, has praised President Donald Trump for his willingness to compromise on government ethics provisions in the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act. In a Monday appearance at the Solana Policy Institute summit, Witt said that Trump deserved a 'big thank you' for his efforts.
Witt stated that these provisions are 'historic and unprecedented' and expressed confidence in their chances of passing the Senate vote. However, he noted that opposition to the bill could be driven by politics rather than policy considerations.
The latest draft of the Clarity Act has made concessions to Democrats on government-ethics sections, including the authority given to states to target individual violators instead of the attorney general. Despite these compromises, Democratic staff on the Senate Banking Committee remain critical of the bill's treatment of state attorneys general's powers.
The industry and its supporters have been cheering on the Clarity Act process, which is set for a major test on Tuesday with a plan to cast the first votes to advance the bill on the Senate floor. A large number of state attorneys general have expressed opposition to the legislation, while the crypto industry remains uneasy about its treatment of DeFi projects.
