Crypto Associations Sue Illinois Over Digital Asset Tax

Share

Two prominent cryptocurrency associations have filed an injunction to block the implementation of a digital asset tax in Illinois. The move is seen as a challenge to the state's new law, which requires cryptocurrency holders to report their holdings and pay taxes on gains.

The associations, BitRss did not specify which ones, argue that the tax is unconstitutional and would have a negative impact on the cryptocurrency industry in the state. They claim that the tax would unfairly target individuals who hold cryptocurrencies as investments and would stifle innovation in the sector.

A spokesperson for one of the associations stated, 'We believe that this tax is a clear overreach by the government and will have serious consequences for our members.' The associations are seeking an injunction to block the implementation of the tax until the issue can be resolved through the courts.
