Crypto-Backed Philanthropy Grows as Major Charities Accept Donations
The world of charity has seen a significant shift in recent years, with many major organizations now accepting donations in cryptocurrencies. According to The Giving Block, crypto donations surpassed $100M in 2025, marking a major milestone for nonprofit fundraising.
One such organization is Save The Children, which was founded over 100 years ago by British women Eglantyne Jebb and her sister Dorothy Buxton. They have helped thousands of children in need globally, including during events like the Russian Famine of 1921, the Second World War in 1939, and numerous natural disasters and disease outbreaks.
Save The Children was one of the first international charities to accept Bitcoin (BTC) donations since 2013 and now also accepts Ether (ETH) and USD Coin (USDC). They even co-launched the Bitcoin Humanitarian Alliance with The Human Rights Foundation in 2025, aiming to build a global network of advocates for financial freedom.
Other notable charities accepting crypto donations include Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), GiveDirectly, The Water Project, and the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF). These organizations have been using cryptocurrencies since as early as 2011, with many receiving significant amounts, including over $12 million for The Water Project.
