Crypto Beats Economy, Politics, and Tech as Market-Moving Headlines

Share

A recent study spanning over half a million news-to-market reaction measurements found that most market-moving news is not about economy, politics, or tech. Instead, it's about less expected subjects like crypto, soccer, and geopolitics.

The Reflex Map study used data from 567,033 news-to-market reactions across 3,707 markets and 123,424 news items from April 29 to July 13, 2026. It found that news about crypto, soccer, or geopolitics moved a market five cents or more about one time in ten.

In contrast, news about economy, politics, or tech only did so about one time in thirty to one in forty-five. This gap between the two tiers is roughly three to five times and is the only comparison that survives scrutiny.
