Crypto Billionaires Donate £72m to Reform UK Amid Calls for Donations Cap

Reform UK has received two significant donations from cryptocurrency billionaires Christopher Harborne and Ben Delo, totaling £72 million. This is the largest amount in British political history, equivalent to three-quarters of the money spent by all parties at the 2024 general election.

The party's leader, Nigel Farage, stated that the funds would be used 'for one purpose only: to make certain we are ready to form a government at the next election.' He also claimed that they will fund 'the best research and policy department British politics has ever seen' and recruit 'the best minds in every area.'

Harborne, who donated £36 million, said his gift was a 'philanthropic gift to our country', while Delo stated it would create a 'level playing field' for Reform with other parties. However, their donations have reignited calls for a cap on political donations, with Labour MP Stella Creasy saying that a cap 'cannot come too soon to protect British democracy.'

Reform UK has denied any wrongdoing and will co-operate fully with an investigation into allegations of breaching rules on political donations.
