Crypto Billionaires Donate Record £97 Million to UK Anti-Immigration Party

Share

Crypto billionaires Ben Delo and Christopher Harborne have given £97 million to Reform UK, an anti-immigration party led by Brexit campaigner Nigel Farage. This is the largest donation ever made to a U.K. political party.

The donations come after months of allegations about improper fundraising by Reform UK that have weakened its standing with voters. The police in London have opened an investigation into reports that the party violated laws prohibiting contributions from overseas donors.

Ben Delo, co-founder of BitMEX, gave £36 million to Reform UK and said he was backing the party because it will attract investment Britain needs to bolster the economy. He believes its policies will generate revenue needed for healthcare, education, and other public services.

The Liberal Democrats have warned that unlimited donations from billionaire businessmen risk corrupting elections and called on Prime Minister Andy Burnham to cap donations and protect British democracy.
