Crypto Billionaires Flood Reform UK with £144m in Two Days
Reform UK, a British anti-immigration party led by Nigel Farage, received its second record-breaking donation in just 48 hours. Cryptocurrency billionaire Christopher Harborne donated £36 million ($49m) to the party, matching an already record contribution made by fellow crypto investor Ben Delo's £36 million pledge a day earlier.
This massive influx of funds brings the total donations to Reform UK from these two donors to £72m. This amount exceeds what both the governing Labour Party and the opposition Conservatives spent during last year's election campaign, according to Electoral Commission figures.
Harborne, who is already Reform UK's largest donor, made his contribution public in a Telegraph article, stating that Delo's pledge inspired him to match it. In the article, Harborne wrote, 'What do I expect in return for my donations? Nothing. No peerage, no policy change, just a party that is ready for government.'
This donation comes amid allegations of irregularities in Reform UK's funding, which the party denies. The funds will likely be used to help the party regain momentum after its lead in opinion polls slipped due to these allegations.
