Crypto Billionaires Flood Reform UK with Record £72m Donation
Two cryptocurrency billionaires have donated a total of £72 million to Nigel Farage's Reform UK party, giving it a significant financial advantage over its rivals. The donations come from Ben Delo and Christopher Harborne, who are based overseas but until recently. This is more than double the income of the main opposition Conservatives in 2022 and more than 60% higher than the ruling Labour Party's income for the whole year.
The party claims that these funds will be used to prepare for government by hiring policy specialists, expanding its operations, and building a nationwide electoral machine. However, critics argue that this may not dispel the atmosphere of sleaze and rule-bending surrounding Farage's populist project.
These donations are four times the previous UK record for the biggest single political gift by a living individual, set by Harborne at £9 million in the third quarter of last year. The party will now have more resources to invest in policy development and electoral machinery, potentially giving it an edge over its opponents.
