Crypto.com-Linked Lending Platform Hit by $74 Million Exploit via Token Manipulation
A decentralized lending platform linked to Crypto.com has been hit by a significant exploit, according to blockchain security firm PeckShield. The attack occurred on Sunday and involved an attacker manipulating the price of tokens used as collateral.
The native Tonic token was inflated by 300-fold within 20 minutes, allowing the attacker to borrow over $74 million from the platform, Tectonic. However, the attacker only managed to drain around $6 million from the platform before validators governing the Cronos blockchain took action.
The validator's response included freezing all trading activity on the Cronos blockchain in an effort to mitigate further damage. PeckShield noted that the attacker's manipulation of the Tonic token price was a key factor in the exploit, highlighting the risks associated with decentralized lending platforms.
