The cryptocurrency derivatives market experienced a severe correction on [no specific date mentioned] as over $684 million in leveraged positions were liquidated across exchanges within a 24-hour window. This resulted in a substantial impact on traders, with approximately 100,000 individuals caught on the wrong side of the trade.

The majority of these liquidations, totaling around $422 million, came from short sellers, indicating that many traders had bet on continued downside pressure from macroeconomic headwinds. However, when prices reversed, these positions were squeezed, leading to forced buying pressure as exchanges closed out these positions by purchasing the underlying assets.

Ethereum (ETH) led the carnage with approximately $262 million in liquidations, while Bitcoin accounted for roughly $182 million of the total liquidations. The single largest individual liquidation was a $20.28 million ETH-USD perpetual position on Hyperliquid.
