Crypto Exchanges Expand into Traditional Markets
Cryptocurrency exchanges have expanded their offerings to include traditional markets, turning major platforms into broader trading platforms. Binance, for example, is building its TradFi-linked derivatives business, while Bitget is creating a Universal Exchange (UEX) model combining crypto and traditional assets in one environment.
The shift has made choosing the right cryptocurrency exchange more complex. Traders must consider factors such as trading volume, liquidity, available assets, fees, security, regulation, and ease of use when selecting an exchange. The market has expanded considerably in 2026, with some exchanges now competing for users who want both crypto and traditional market exposure from one account.
Binance remains the largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, with approximately $1.83 trillion in combined spot and derivatives volume during August 2026. OKX ranked second with about $681.3 billion in combined trading volume, while MEXC and Bybit followed closely behind. Bitget's Universal Exchange strategy makes it an attractive option for users who regularly trade across crypto and global markets.
