Crypto Firms Focus on User Adoption Over Technical Achievements
Crypto firms are shifting their focus from building new blockchain products to driving user adoption and making their services more accessible to everyday financial activity. Companies like Coinbase are emphasizing practical uses such as saving, spending, and borrowing, rather than highlighting the underlying technology.
According to Coinbase's head of financial services and loyalty products, Ben Shen, adoption depends on creating 'magic moments' when users quickly understand why a product is useful. The company views adoption as a cycle where money comes onto the platform, customers find reasons to keep it there, and then use it across other services.
Asset managers, such as WisdomTree, which manages $150 billion in assets, are also expanding access to their tokenized fund lineup through partnerships like MoonPay. These collaborations allow eligible U.S. retail customers to access the product using stablecoins.
Coinbase is pursuing a similar multi-channel approach, seeking outside distribution through apps, websites, and potentially AI agents. The sector's next hurdle is no longer just building blockchain-based financial products, but persuading consumers and institutions to use them regularly.
