Crypto Firms Ramp Up Post-Quantum Security Efforts Amid Growing Threat
The cryptocurrency space is taking steps to prepare for the potential threats posed by quantum computing. Sui, a blockchain platform, has announced that it will implement two post-quantum signature systems that are NIST-standardized, allowing users to migrate their accounts seamlessly without having to transfer assets.
This move aims to ensure that Sui's users can maintain the security of their accounts even in the event of a quantum computer being developed. The platform is planning to implement both the SPHINCS and Dilithium signature systems, which are designed to be resistant to quantum attacks.
In related news, Galaxy has pledged $5 million towards research into post-quantum solutions for Bitcoin, with a goal of making the cryptocurrency more resilient against potential threats by 2030. Meanwhile, IBM CEO Arvind Krishna expects quantum computing to start boosting earnings by 2028 or 2029, with projected revenue reaching $1 trillion.
