Crypto Futures Suffer $263M Liquidation as Longs Get Squeezed
Crypto perpetual futures saw significant liquidation in the past 24 hours, with approximately $263 million forcibly closed. Ethereum (ETH) led the way with $140.47 million liquidated, followed closely by Bitcoin (BTC) at $106.56 million. Solana (SOL) also experienced a notable $16.51 million in forced closures.
The data suggests that long positions dominated these liquidations across all three assets, indicating a sudden shift in market sentiment caught traders off guard. In ETH, 54.48% of the liquidated funds were from long positions, while BTC saw an even higher share at 65.57%. SOL followed a similar pattern with 55.31% of its liquidations coming from longs.
Such events often point to rapid price drops, which can be triggered by macroeconomic news, changes in funding rates, or whale activity. The exact catalyst for this event remains unclear. However, it typically leads to increased volatility and may signal a short-term market correction.
