Crypto Group Fairshake Pours Millions into Bipartisan House Races
A major cryptocurrency campaign group, Fairshake, has announced plans to support a bipartisan group of House candidates in the upcoming November midterms. The organization revealed a list of 32 House members, 19 Republicans and 13 Democrats, it will back, with six receiving $1 million each in spending. All 32 supported key legislation that stalled this year, making them priorities for the industry.
The group's investment in House races follows its significant spending in the Ohio Senate race, where it plans to spend nearly $30 million against Democratic candidate Sherrod Brown. Brown faced similar spending in 2024, when he lost to Republican Bernie Moreno. The industry's focus on Brown intensified after Senate Democrats blocked the CLARITY Act, which aimed to establish a federal regulatory framework for digital assets.
Fairshake emphasized its bipartisan approach, noting it has supported 29 Democrats and 28 Republicans in primaries and special elections this year, spending a total of $71 million. The group claims a high success rate, winning 53 of the 57 races it engaged in during this cycle. However, Senate Democrats' blocking of the CLARITY Act has complicated future negotiations, with some critics arguing the move could make future deals less favorable for the industry.
The group's spokesperson, Geoff Vetter, reiterated its commitment to supporting pro-crypto candidates across party lines. He highlighted the group's role in building what he called the largest pro-crypto caucus in American history. The organization's significant financial influence could shape key House races, particularly in competitive reelection battles.
