Crypto Group Fairshake Targets 32 House Races with Millions in Midterm Spending
A major cryptocurrency campaign group, Fairshake, has revealed a list of House candidates it will back in the upcoming midterm elections, demonstrating its financial influence after a challenging legislative year. The bipartisan list includes 19 Republicans and 13 Democrats, with six members each receiving $1 million in support. All 32 lawmakers supported key industry legislation that stalled in Congress.
The group's spending plan contrasts with its largest general election investment so far, a nearly $30 million campaign against Democratic Senate candidate Sherrod Brown in Ohio. Brown faced significant cryptocurrency spending in 2024 and became a target again after Senate Democrats blocked the CLARITY Act, which aimed to establish a federal regulatory framework for digital assets.
Fairshake plans to heavily support three Democratic and three Republican House members facing competitive races, including Reps. Janelle Bynum of Oregon, Steven Horsford of Nevada, and Derek Tran of California on the Democratic side, and Reps. French Hill of Arkansas, Bryan Steil of Wisconsin, and Bill Huizenga of Michigan on the Republican side. The group emphasized its bipartisan approach, highlighting its success in backing pro-crypto candidates across both parties.
While Fairshake has spent significantly in Senate races, including supporting Democratic candidates Ruben Gallego and Elissa Slotkin, its future Senate spending remains uncertain. The group's spokesperson, Geoff Vetter, reiterated its commitment to supporting pro-crypto candidates and building the largest pro-crypto caucus in history.
