Crypto Group Fairshake Targets 32 House Races with Millions in Bipartisan Spending
A major cryptocurrency campaign group, Fairshake, has revealed a bipartisan list of House candidates it will support in the upcoming midterm elections, aiming to influence key races after a challenging legislative year. The list includes 19 Republicans and 13 Democrats, with six members receiving $1 million each in campaign support. All 32 lawmakers backed legislation that was a top priority for the crypto industry.
The group's spending strategy contrasts with its largest general election investment so far, which was nearly $30 million against Democratic Senate candidate Sherrod Brown in Ohio. Brown has been a major target for the crypto industry after Senate Democrats blocked the CLARITY Act, which sought to establish a federal regulatory framework for digital assets.
Fairshake plans to heavily support several competitive House races, with three Republicans and three Democrats receiving the most funding. The group emphasizes its bipartisan approach, highlighting its investments in both parties during primaries and special elections this year. Geoff Vetter, a spokesperson for Fairshake, stated that the organization backs pro-crypto candidates from both parties, claiming success in 53 of the 57 races it engaged in this cycle.
The crypto industry's legislative efforts faced a setback when Senate Democrats blocked the CLARITY Act in September. Fairshake's spending against Brown follows this development, though the group has also supported Democratic Senate candidates in the past. Rep. Ruben Gallego criticized the decision to target Brown, arguing that it complicates future negotiations for market structure legislation.
