Crypto Group Fairshake Targets House Races with Millions in Bipartisan Spending
A major cryptocurrency advocacy group, Fairshake, is set to invest millions in a bipartisan slate of House races ahead of the November midterms. The group plans to support 19 Republicans and 13 Democrats, with six members receiving $1 million each in campaign backing. All 32 lawmakers supported the CLARITY Act, a key legislative priority for the crypto industry that stalled in Congress this year.
The group's spending in House races is notable but smaller compared to its nearly $30 million investment against Democratic Senate candidate Sherrod Brown in Ohio. Fairshake had previously spent close to $40 million targeting Brown in 2024. The increased spending against Brown follows Senate Democrats' decision to block the CLARITY Act, which aimed to establish a federal regulatory framework for digital assets.
Fairshake's top beneficiaries in the House include Reps. Janelle Bynum (D-Oregon), Steven Horsford (D-Nevada), Derek Tran (D-California), French Hill (R-Arkansas), Bryan Steil (R-Wisconsin), and Bill Huizenga (R-Michigan). The group emphasized its bipartisan approach, highlighting its support for both Democratic and Republican candidates in primaries and special elections this year.
Geoff Vetter, a spokesperson for Fairshake, stated that the organization backs 'pro-crypto candidates who support American innovation in both parties.' The group claims to have won 53 of the 57 races it engaged in during this election cycle. Meanwhile, Senate Democrats' opposition to the CLARITY Act has led to criticism from some, including Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Arizona), who called the decision 'dumb politics.'
