Crypto Group Fairshake to Spend Millions on Bipartisan House Races
A major cryptocurrency campaign organization, Fairshake, is set to invest millions in a bipartisan group of House candidates ahead of the November midterms. The group, which has been one of the biggest political spenders in the crypto industry, plans to support 19 Republicans and 13 Democrats, all of whom backed key legislation favored by the sector. Six members will receive $1 million each in support, highlighting Fairshake's push to influence Congress after a disappointing legislative year.
The announcement comes after Senate Democrats blocked the CLARITY Act, which aimed to establish a federal regulatory framework for digital assets. Fairshake had previously targeted Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown from Ohio, pledging nearly $30 million against him in the upcoming election. Brown faced significant crypto industry spending in 2024 as well, with nearly $40 million directed against him during his unsuccessful reelection bid.
Fairshake's spending will focus on competitive House races, with three Republicans and three Democrats receiving the highest level of support. The group emphasizes its bipartisan approach, having backed both Democratic and Republican candidates in previous elections. Geoff Vetter, a Fairshake spokesperson, stated that the organization supports pro-crypto candidates in both parties, citing a strong track record of success in primary and special elections this year.
Senate Democrats' blocking of the CLARITY Act has raised concerns within the crypto industry about the future of regulatory clarity. Some lawmakers, like Democratic Senator Ruben Gallego from Arizona, criticized the decision, arguing that it could complicate negotiations and lead to less favorable outcomes for the industry.
