Crypto Group Targets Key House Races with Millions in Bipartisan Spending
A leading cryptocurrency advocacy group, Fairshake, is set to invest millions in a bipartisan group of House candidates ahead of the November midterms. The organization released a list of 32 lawmakers, 19 Republicans and 13 Democrats, it will support, with six members each receiving $1 million in backing. All 32 supported the CLARITY Act, a key industry-backed bill that stalled in Congress this year.
Among the top recipients are three Democrats and three Republicans facing competitive reelection battles. Fairshake’s support could significantly influence these races, particularly in tight contests. The group emphasized its bipartisan approach, highlighting its past successes in backing both Democratic and Republican candidates who support crypto-friendly policies.
Fairshake’s spending spree extends beyond the House. In September, it announced a $30 million campaign against Democratic Senate candidate Sherrod Brown in Ohio, following Senate Democrats' blocking of the CLARITY Act. Brown had previously faced nearly $40 million in crypto-related spending in 2024, when he lost to Republican Bernie Moreno. The group’s spokesperson, Geoff Vetter, reiterated Fairshake’s commitment to supporting pro-crypto candidates across party lines.
Despite Fairshake’s aggressive spending, some lawmakers, like Democratic Senate candidate Ruben Gallego, criticized the strategy. Gallego argued that targeting Brown could complicate future negotiations on crypto legislation, which requires a 60-vote threshold in the Senate. Fairshake, however, remains focused on building the largest pro-crypto caucus in history.
