Crypto Hacks Total Over $5.56 Billion: Bybit Leads with Record-Breaking $1.5B Heist
In a year marked by significant crypto hacks, Chainalysis and Elliptic have compiled a list of the eleven biggest incidents. The largest hack occurred in February 2025 at Bybit, where nearly $1.5 billion worth of Ether was stolen. This incident accounted for 26.2% of the total value stolen across all eleven hacks.
North Korean hackers were responsible for stealing $2.02 billion in cryptocurrency in 2025, a 51% year-over-year increase despite fewer attacks. DPRK attacks made up 76% of all service compromises that year.
Cross-chain bridges were the target of five out of the eleven hacks, with a total value of $2.337 million stolen. Centralized exchanges accounted for four entries worth $2.743 million combined. DeFi protocols had two entries worth $484 million.
