Crypto Industry Allocates $206M to Influence US Legislative Elections
The cryptocurrency industry has allocated over $206 million to the US legislative elections of 2026 through various companies, donations, and political organizations linked to the sector. This move comes as the Senate blocks the Clarity Act, a proposal that aims to establish a broad federal framework for digital assets.
The Clarity Act, which was rejected by a procedural vote on September 15, would have delineated the competencies of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) over different digital assets. It also established criteria to determine when a token should fall under securities regulation or the commodities regime.
President Donald Trump has publicly defended regulation favorable to the cryptocurrency industry, presenting himself as a defender of the sector during his presidential campaign and later supporting the approval of a federal framework for digital assets.
