Crypto Industry Hit with Wave of Cyber Attacks
A recent wave of cyber attacks has targeted various crypto assets and exchanges. Triple-A's hot wallets were compromised, resulting in losses of about $11.8 million across multiple networks.
The affected wallets included Ethereum, TRON, Polygon, Arbitrum, Solana, and The Open Network. Fresh deposits continued flowing into the compromised wallets more than a day after the attack began, with the stolen assets converted and consolidated into a single Ethereum address.
Verus-Ethereum Bridge has also suffered a security breach, with an attacker stealing about $7.5 million in crypto assets by exploiting the same type of vulnerability used in the protocol's May hack.
In another development, hackers have been using SparkKitty malware to steal wallet recovery phrases stored as images. The malware uses optical character recognition to scan photos and screenshots for sensitive information, which is then sent to attacker-controlled servers.
