The crypto industry is facing a multi-billion-dollar security crisis in 2026, with over $2.21 billion lost to various attacks and incidents. According to a report by CryptoRank, there have been 288 reported incidents so far this year, including hacks on exchanges, wallets, infrastructure, and critical infrastructure.

A small number of major breaches has driven a disproportionate share of the damage, with approximately 4% of attacks accounting for around 75% of stolen funds. The median loss was $219,000, while the mean loss reached roughly $4.7 million.
