Crypto Innovations Flood into Traditional Finance
The world of traditional finance is slowly adopting innovations from the crypto industry.
Stablecoins, which were initially created to solve problems within the crypto market, are now being used by payment giants as a foundation for new settlement infrastructure. For example, Visa describes stablecoins as an additional channel for moving money in international payments, treasury operations, and corporate settlements. Mastercard is expanding card transaction settlement to regulated stablecoins and building infrastructure that connects digital dollars with its existing payment network.
The same transformation is taking place with tokenization. BlackRock issues tokenized money market instruments, while J.P. Morgan uses blockchain through Kinexys for settlement, collateral management, and asset transfers between institutional participants. The European Central Bank (ECB) has also launched a mechanism connecting transactions in digital assets with settlement in central bank money.
Crypto's influence can be seen in other areas as well, such as round-the-clock trading. Traditionally, exchanges had specific sessions for trading and settlement, but tokenization is changing this. Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the owner of the NYSE, has announced plans to develop a platform for round-the-clock trading in tokenized securities.
