Crypto Liquidity Dries Up as Spot DEX Volume Hits Two-Year Low
Spot decentralized exchange (DEX) trading volume has plummeted to its lowest level in nearly two years, a decline that highlights a significant drop in market liquidity. According to Blockworks' Spot DEX dashboard, the combined inflow and outflow of assets across these exchanges has fallen to around $130.77 billion, which is 26% lower than June's volume of $177.55 billion.
This marks the lowest level since September 2024, when spot DEX volume sat at approximately $108 billion. The sharp decline signals bearish control over the market and indicates a substantial outflow of capital across the 35 blockchains where DEX activity is currently tracked.
The stablecoin market has been a significant contributor to overall spot DEX volume, accounting for nearly 30% of all DEX activity with around $31.53 billion in stablecoin volume over the same period. However, despite the recent rally in July, the total crypto market capitalization surged by approximately $192 billion, an 11% gain.
The stablecoin supply has actually contracted during this time, falling by $2.23 billion so far this month and sliding to $308.473 billion. This contraction suggests that a sustained market rally remains unlikely until the supply begins to expand again.
