Crypto Market Cap Drops $74 Billion Amid $164 Million in Liquidations
The global crypto market cap fell by 2.6% to $2.88 trillion due to liquidations of more than $164 million in leveraged positions, primarily affecting long traders.
This decline occurred as traders cut back on their leveraged positions, sending the total market capitalization down. The majority of these forced closures were of long positions, indicating that some traders had been positioning for further gains that did not materialize.
The liquidation wave is relatively small compared to previous crashes, but it still points to a reduction in bullish leverage. As prices fell quickly, highly leveraged long positions were closed automatically, adding more selling pressure to an already weak market.
