Crypto Market Cap Falls to $2.3 Trillion Amid Concerns Over Misleading Metrics
The total crypto market capitalization stood near $2.3 trillion in July 2026, down 47% from its all-time high of approximately $4.27 trillion recorded on October 6, 2025.
Crypto market capitalization is calculated by multiplying the current price of a token by its circulating supply, producing a snapshot of total network value at any moment.
However, market cap can be misleading as it does not capture how much money has flowed into a project. A token with low trading volume and insider-heavy token distributions can inflate market cap without real liquidity.
To get a clearer view of actual value, investors should combine market cap with total value locked (TVL), daily trading volume, and fully diluted valuation (FDV).
