Crypto Market Crashes Amid Regulatory Uncertainty
The crypto market is experiencing a fresh bout of stress after the US Senate's failure to move forward with the CLARITY Act, which aimed to develop a comprehensive federal regulatory framework around digital currencies. The Senate vote fell short of the 60 votes needed, receiving 50 in support and 49 against.
The decline in cryptocurrency values was preceded by a vote that highlighted the ongoing uncertainty surrounding regulation. Bitcoin dipped below $75,000, while Ethereum fell to below $2,500 and XRP dropped nearly 10%. The market experienced an estimated $669.71 million worth of crypto liquidations in one day.
The CLARITY Act's failure has left regulatory uncertainty hanging over the market, with the SEC and CFTC taking on regulation duties for now. Investors are bracing themselves for the potential impact of future regulation on valuation.
