Crypto Market Defies Tensions, Outperforms Stocks and Commodities
The cryptocurrency market has been defying expectations and outperforming other sectors despite ongoing geopolitical tensions. According to Bull Theory, Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) have surged by 40% and 66%, respectively, in the last three months, with the total cryptocurrency market capitalization increasing by over 30%. This contrasts with commodities like gold and silver, which have lagged behind.
The S&P 500 has also underperformed compared to Bitcoin's returns. While the stock index has posted a 12% year-to-date return, Bitcoin's losses have outstripped gold's. Bull Theory attributes the cryptocurrency market's resilience to the SEC's efforts to build a regulatory framework for crypto, including tokenized U.S. stocks.
Bitcoin hit an intraday high of $87,363 on Monday, its highest since late January, but this advance was short-lived. The Treasury's decision to double debt buybacks to support the bond market led to renewed interest in Bitcoin as a hedge against debasement. However, when the yield on the 10-year Treasury note surged to its highest level since 2007 following higher-than-expected Purchasing Managers' Index readings, Bitcoin's price declined by 2.8%.
