Crypto Market Plummets Amid US-Iran Tensions and ETF Outflows
The cryptocurrency market saw significant losses today, with Bitcoin and major altcoins plummeting in value. According to CoinGecko data, the global crypto value dropped by 0.5% in 24 hours, reaching $2.68 trillion. Bitcoin dominance held at 57.3%, while Ethereum accounted for 10.8%. The market cap of Bitcoin fell to $1.538 trillion after dropping over 1.5% to $76,548.39.
Ethereum was hit the hardest, falling by 3% to $2,368.22 and losing $288.84 billion in market value. XRP slipped 2.7% to $1.32, while Solana took a significant hit of 3.4% to $98.01. The total liquidations in the last 24 hours reached $367.73 million, with long positions taking $300.42 million of the hit.
The sharp decline was triggered by rising US-Iran tensions near the Strait of Hormuz, which rattled risk assets and cryptocurrency prices. President Trump's confirmation of US strikes on Iranian targets and his warning against retaliation contributed to the market downturn. The standoff has significant implications for oil shipping routes, which could further impact the global economy.
ETF flows showed a mixed picture today, with US Bitcoin ETFs recording outflows of $236.46 million while other major tokens saw inflows. Ethereum ETFs pulled in $10.95 million, XRP ETFs added $14.38 million, and Solana ETFs gained $10.19 million. The single biggest liquidation happened on Binance, an ETHUSDT order worth $11.99 million.
